'Erotokritos' by Ross Daly

'Erotokritos' by Ross Daly is a musical version of the epic poem 'Erotokritos'. 'Epic' sounds a bit hefty and, yes, it is definitely not a light piece for the beach outing. But if you like hiking and choose to listen to it from the top of the Cretan mountain and in solitude, there is a great chance it will become your special one too. The author, Irishman Ross Daly has lived in Crete for over 35 years and is certainly the most renowned world musician not only on the island and in Greece but beyond. 'Carey' by Joni Mitchell

'Carey' by Joni Mitchell is probably the most well known Crete-inspired song around the world from the sweet 70. Mitchell spend only four month in Matala at the end of 60. living in a hippie community and, look, what a wonderful result! Having visited the place, we can surely confirm - Matala inspires! This song  was included in Mitchell's 1971 album 'Blue'. Put this album on when visiting Matala in South of Crete to accompany the magnificent sunsets.

'Music for Last Temptation of Jesus Christ' by Peter Gabriel

Music for Last Temptation of Jesus Christ' was awarded the Best New Age Album title in 1990. Composed by Peter Gabriel it is beautiful soundtrack for Marin Scorsese film "The Last Temptation of Jesus Christ". What does it all have to do with Crete? The simple fact that film is adaptation of the controversial 1953 novel of the same name by Nikos Kazantzakis - world-renowned Cretan philosopher and writer.
